May 4, 2019, Info Meeting

Just a reminder that there will be an informational meeting regarding the trash referendum lawsuit to be held:
Saturday, May 4, 2019, 10 am to 12 noon
Arlington Hills Community Center
1200 Payne Ave
St. Paul, MN  55130

The "penalty power" petition discussed below will be available for signing.  Trash Wars T-Shirts will also be available at this event for $20.

City's Penalty Power
Charter Amendment

Since Charter amendments by ordinance require the unanimous support of the council, it can be defeated if justone council member votes against their penalty power ordinance, Ord 19-18.

We oppose this ordinance due to concerns that such a broad penalty power could be abused.

The council's vote on this charter amendment was originally scheduled for its April 24, 2019, meeting.  The vote was rescheduled for May 8, due to their apparent inability to get the approval of all seven council members.

We continue to urge you to contact your ward council member, letting him or her know of your opposition to this penalty power charter amendment.

In the event that all seven council members vote in favor of this "penalty power," we have begun collecting signatures to allow our residents to vote on  Ordinance 19-18.  For more information, see Penalty Petition, where our petition form and instructions are available for download.

Closed Door Lawsuit Meeting

The council has scheduled a "closed door" meeting ahead of its May 8, 2019, public meeting.  For more info regarding both upcoming May 8 meetings, including links to the agendas, see our website News.

Video Contest

We are sponsoring a video contest, open to any aspiring film maker.  Details are available at our website.
